Has It Really Been a Decade?

Warning: This is a LONG post!
It never donned on me that the first decade of the new century AND millennium has come and gone. It only occurred to me after reading my friend Amanda's post about her decade. It really got me thinking about my experiences this past decade and how much I've grown up and my life has changed.
So here is my Decade in Review

2000
I rang in the New Year with my friend Suzi at the down town Salt Lake celebration "First Night". Honestly... it was very anti-climatic. But, this was a big year for me. Lots of firsts. I had my first car. I got my first boyfriend. I got my first kiss. I fell in love for the first time. I had my heart broken for the first time. I graduated from high school. I quit my high school job as a baker at Einstein Bagels. I got my first CNA job at Alta Ridge Assisted Living. I had a great summer with my friend Lisa. I started my first semester of college at the University of Utah. I got my first D (in college when it actually matters!). I quit my job and got a new job at The University of Utah Hospital as a CNA. I also did a short 2.5 month temp. job at Modern Display - my only stab at the retail world. (I can't believe how much money people would spend on what I considered crap!) I I started hanging out with my friend Annie and her group of friends.

2001

More college. Went on spring break to St. George with Annie and the Gang. Fell for another boy. Had my heart broken again. Started being really casual about dating. Moved out of the parents house for the first time with my two roommates April and Jenny. I shared a room with Jenny. I had never shared a room with anyone before, and I hadn't met her until I moved in. But it was fun! I liked having a buddy next to me to laugh with at night. I joined the Lambda Delta Sigma (LDS) Sorority chapter Epsilon to meet more people. I got to know two fun twins on a Halloween activity, Minna and Regina. We bonded later at a Epsilon retreat sleep over. Met another boy at the end of the year who seemed real serious about marriage.
2002
Me and serious boy broke up right before Valentines Day. I was so young (only 19) and not in love with him. Found out he got married 3 months later (He really was serious about getting married!!) The 2002 Winter Olympics came in February. The University of Utah Hospital census was low so I did not work, school was cancelled since a lot of the events were located at the University of Utah, and the whole downtown was shut down for Olympic festivities and events. I had no school, no work, and I just broke up with my boyfriend as my beloved roommate was getting married. It was a low point for me, but I did a lot of personal growth during that time. I started hanging out with my sorority sisters. My cousin Katie moved in when Jenny got married. I got a job in the Operating Room and the U of U hospital. I dated somebody that I worked with (not recommended) We broke up. Fall semester started. I was applying for nursing school. I started to really bond with my sorority sisters. We went to Vegas on what could possibly be the cheapest vacation I ever took. I believe that I only spent $75 dollars the whole time (gas money, hotel, and food split between 5 girls). We did bring PB sandwiches and cup 'o' noodles for the hotel room. At the very end of the year I found out that I got accepted to nursing school at the University of Utah!

2003

Started my first semester of Nursing school. Decided to take the "fast track" program which was 5 semesters consecutively. Spring,Summer, Fall, Spring, Summer semesters. I worked nights at my job. Never got any sleep. I went to Southern California on Spring break with my cousin Katie. When we got back we went to Fat Cats bowling with the sorority girls. There I met Chris. Thought he wasn't interested. Found out later he was. Moved out of my first apartment to the 4-plex with Katie and Stacie. Went to Vegas 3 months later with all the friends and Chris and we started to date after that. Then he moved to Northern California at the end of June. Visited him in August and decided I wanted to only date him. Nursing school, nursing school, nursing school, with the occasional visit back and forth from Salt Lake to California. Visited Chris over New Years.2004

More nursing school. Trying to decide if I was going to move to California when I finished nursing school. Chris moved back to Utah instead to be close to his family (and me!). Graduated from nursing school (HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF!) Got my job where I did my capstone, on the Infant Unit at Primary Children's. Decided that I was going to learn how to snowboard. Started Scrap booking again.

2005

Determined to learn how to snowboard, I practically taught myself by reading about and watching people, and chasing after my friend Jen who is really good. She didn't have much patience when it came to teaching. Went on a cruise with 4 really good friends and had a blast! One of my favorite vacations ever. At the end of the year Chris and I talked about getting married and made some plans to do so the next spring.

2006

The year started out difficult. Chris's dad was in and out of the ICU with pneumonia. I lost one of my patients whose family I had gotten real close to. Then Chris's Dad passed away in early March. It was a tough time, especially for Chris. We had hoped his Dad would be here for the wedding. But we got engaged and decided that May 25th was the day for us. We were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on a perfect May day and had our Reception at The Point Restaurant. We Honeymooned in Maui. Then I came home for a week and went to Alaska with my family to visit my sister Jill. We visited Chris's sister Melanie in Miami in August. Then we went through the process of house hunting and found a great 3 bedroom condo. We moved in in November.

2007

Made a lot of changes to our condo. Mostly painting, but a few other projects including tile. We were supposed to go to Oahu for our 1st anniversary, but ended up having to settle for California because stand by flying is not all it's cracked up to be. It's OK. We made it to Oahu in the fall. My cousin Katie got married. We adopted our adorable kitties in September. I worked almost all night shifts this year which really messed up my schedule. Decided not to do full time nights anymore.

2008

Started off with lots of snowboarding. Chris started school at Devry University in March. I started my blog in April. Went to San Diego with Katie and her Husband Tedd. Made some great memories and inside jokes that we still laugh about. I became a Charge Nurse at my work. Third wheeled it on a vacation to Kauai with Katie and Tedd since Chris had to stay home and work on school. It was still a blast, but I would have preferred he had been with me. Got a snowboarding pass with my friend Jeff. Started really thinking about expanding our family.

2009

Had a blast snowboarding with Jeff all season. There was a lot of snowfall in January which made for some great powder days. Went to Hawaii (the big island) in March with Katie and Tedd so I could say I've been to all the major islands in Hawaii. Found out we were expecting in June. Went and visited my SIL in Arizona and my friend Lisa in Vegas. Chris had his appendix out. And we found out we were having A BOY!

I can't believe that it has been 10 years since I graduated from high school. Time sure does fly if you really think about it. It was full of great memories. Now on to a new year and a new decade! May it be the most exciting and adventurous yet!

Looks like it was a good decade. I also was a baker at Einsteins, but was a really long time ago, I quit in 1996.

I linked over from Suzi's blog. It has probably been about a decade since I've seen you. I really can't believe it's gone by so fast. Seems like you've been busy and happy.

That was a fun post to read about you. I'm not sure if I could remember that much stuff about my own life (I have a terrible memory) ;)

I know, it's crazy! And to think we were only 12 when we met. I recently found a picture of us dressed up like hippies for Halloween... Remember that? lol I'm glad we still keep in touch! :)
