Day Trip

So with my flight benefits (thanks honey!) my cousin and I, with her husband and his brother, decided to take a day trip to L.A. and do a little sight seeing.

The original plan was to go to the beach for the day, but since the weather predicted 60's and overcast... didn't sound like an ideal day at the beach.
We took the early morning (cough 7:00 am) flight. And wanted to get going, but there was a little slip up with the rental car company and Hotwire (stupid "third party"). So that took a two hour bite out of our day and involved taking three shuttles and a lot of phone calls. When we finally got our car it was hideous and smelled like smoke, but at least we had transportation!
First stop, Hollywood Boulevard. We saw the Hollywood sign and went to Graumans Chinese Theater to see the stars hand/foot prints. Then to H&M because there happened to be one located on the street. :)

Look how tiny Shirley Temple's little feet and hands were. And look how old it is!
Then we went to Griffins Observatory and learned about space. It had incredible views of the smoggy, overcast, and extremely LARGE L.A. city scape.

Then we found a cemetery that is located in the middle of the city that has people in it like Truman Capote, Walter Mattheau, Betty Paige, Rodney Dangerfield, Merv Griffin, and Marilyn Monroe.

But pretty soon, it was time to return to LAX so that we wouldn't miss our flight home. All in all the whole trip cost me $45 (most spent at H&M).

You find yourself wondering, is it really worth it to wake up at 5:20 AM to get to the airport early enough, only to fly for 1hour 45minutes and then have to turn around and arrive at the airport early to fly again for 1 hour 45 minutes home and get home at about 11:00 at night all for about 7-8 hours in L.A. Is it really worth it?...

...Maybe for the beach!

I can't even remember the last time I've been in actual LA. I grew up in Southern California, and have gone back to San Diego, Anaheim, etc, but I've never actually been to Graumans before.

Ooh, that cemetery fascinates me - I'll have to go there some day!

I say it's worth it!
You did a lot of site-seeing for one day! I'm jealous!
