I have really been wanting to go up to the mountains to see the fall leaves. It used to be a tradition in my family. Once a year during fall, usually on Sunday, we would go up to the mountains to see all the changing leaves. Then we would take a few and put them on a piece of cardboard and my mom would take them to get laminated. I still have some of my leaf collages!
Anyway, the past few years I have missed out on my opportunity to see the leaves. Mostly because it is so hot through September (usually) and then BAM! October snow. It seems like we only really get two weeks of fall weather before winter starts.
My cousin and I decided that we weren't missing out on the leaves this year (Even though our husbands were busy/sick) So we decided to go up to Milcreek Canyon and go for a hike. We drove up to the top of the Canyon and went on the hike to Dog Lake. Let's just say, my sister Jill would be ashamed. It was only 1.8 miles, but with a 1200 elevation change. We hiked for a little while, but then decided to head back before making it to the lake. We probably did about 1.5-2 miles round trip. Let's just say I'm a little out of shape, and wasn't really planning on a steep incline hike. I just wanted to enjoy the fall leaves and the smell of nature.
You know what is sad. I live next to the most amazing gorgeous mountains and I hardly ever visit them. I only really ever go to the mountains when I am shopping at Park City or going snowboarding. I live about 20-30 minutes away from some of the most breathtaking scenery and I don't take advantage! I really want to commit myself to spending more time in the beauty and serenity of nature. It is inspiring! I can see now, Jill, why you are so inspired all the time, and why Alaska is your Muse.

I am the same way, I rarely take advantage of the mountains - and they are so beautiful!
Glad you took pictures so I can see the beauty from my computer.
we did that last sunday!! i love it. that is one thing i missed most about living in st george was the changing of the leaves..they dont really get that down there!
Wow Lisa, the leaves are so beautiful right now! We don't get color like that here in Juneau. Seriously. It's just too wet. The leaves turn a sickly shade of light green/brown and then fall off the trees. There's a little yellow here and there, but nothing like that! You've just reminded me of one of the things I miss deeply about Utah.
And I've been to Dog Lake, and it is a steep one :-) Good for you, for getting out.
By the way, I'm going to be in town next week! I'm headed down to the Grand Canyon with mom and dad, but I'd really like to see you while I'm up there. What is your schedule like? I will be in Salt Lake City Thursday night and all day the following Monday. Hope we can get together! Let me know.
Beautiful! I love the colors.
And good for you for getting out there!
Next time, I challenge you to ride your bike up there and sleep on the ground while things try to eat you, like someone else in your family. ;)
Beautiful!
it looks so nice up there right now. we have got to get off of our lazy butts and get up there before it is too late. we love the dog lake trail, it is beautiful and our pup paisley really loves the swimming at the top.
