Why Blogging is So Addicting

You start a little blog because:
a. You know someone who has one
b. You have nothing else to do with your time
c. It's the "cool thing to do"
d. You have a story to tell
e. To complain about stuff
f. You want to brag about yourself/how wonderful your life is/ how cute and wonderful your husband is/how cute your kids are/etc. (By the way my husband is cute and wonderful!)

But for whatever reason you start one.

Then you find out who else you know that has one. You visit their sites to see what is going on in their lives. You look at their pictures, read their posts, laugh, cry, reconnect with old friends.

Then you start to read the comments on your friends posts. Some people, who you don't know, may post a hilarious comment that sparks your interest.

You visit their site. You can read about their lives and their stories and feel like you practically know their experiences and takes on life. Now you have cyber friends you have never even met.

You leave them comments. Which sparks their interest. They visit your site. They leave comments.

You start to think about your life and how you can share it with the world. So you start to post more.

Then your curious if anyone has commented on your posts. So you check back to see if there is a comment. When there is, you feel special that someone else cares about what is going on in your life and your experiences.

Since they posted a comment, you know they have been on the Internet recently. So you click on their link to see if they have posted anything new.

They have! So you leave a comment.

Then they see that you have left a comment, visit your site, you have a new post, so they comment.

Since you are getting more comments, you post more.

And thus the vicious cycle of being a blog addict. Now you're on the Internet frequently either blogging, or reading other blogs.

It's like crack. Not that I would know that since I have never taken drugs. But we'll put it this way: It is the extreme snow biking to my sister, the video game to my husband, the shopping to my little sister, the new book to read to my mom, the hiking to my dad. It is the scrap booking, snowboarding, watching the Olympics, new guilty pleasure of my life.

It IS like crack. I was prodded to start a blog for a while, and thought, "I'll never have anything to blog about." Hahahaha. Before you started reading mine, I had made a goal to blog everyday, and I actually did it for 2 months.

It was too much. So, I still blog a lot, but I don't feel the pressure of blogging everyday. I would say that 90% of my readers now are strangers. It's been really cool.

In fact, I've been toying with the idea of doing a meet and greet for people who read my blog. I might do a poll about it in the future.

I resisted blogging as well - I thought only people with kids had stuff to blog about.

But now I've found that the most interesting blogs are those people who don't blog about their kids non-stop (sorry to those of you who use your blog solely to chronicle little prince/ss's life).

Thanks for adding me to your blog roll - love your blog :)

Look Lis, I am leaving you a comment. If I started a blog, seriously no one would read it, but i'm over myspace now so I need to find something new. Love you, Sara

Yeah blogs!

Guess where I'm blogging from? Calfornia! How awesome (and awful) is that.

I'm an addict going on three years now. It doesn't stop. I say this with love.

At the same time, how in the world would I have ever met so many crazy but cool winter bikers? How many of them could there even be? There's probably like 50, and I'm now "friends" with at least half of them. And you've reconnected with old friends. I say yeah again, yeah for blogs.

See you soon :-)

Haha! I'm a recovering blogging addict myself. My poor blogs have fallen victim to my newer addictions--apparently, I'm an addict with ADD.

I haven't talked to you in forever, but I found your blog through Facebook and have been reading it religiously. Anyways, I just wanted to say, "hi." It's good to "see" you.

I didn't want to have a blog at first either (cause we don't have kids). Apparently I thought a blog was a Kid Show-and-Tell. Then I realized I could whine and complain on a blog. BINGO!
